3 GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, February 14, 2005 - Axalto (Euronext: NL0000400653 – AXL) today announced a partnership with INSIDE Contactless to provide full range of proximity services to GSM mobile phone customers. The companies will use Axalto (U)SIM dual interface smart cards and INSIDE Contactless PicoRead™ contactless reader Integrated Circuits (IC) along with an antenna embedded in the handset to enable a full range of proximity services in transportation, access and mobile payment market segment. Such services include the ability to reload transport tickets and e-purses, as well as view account information on the handset. |

“This solution illustrates Axalto’s continuing efforts to use the SIM to bring the best and most convenient services to users,” said Philippe Vrignaud, Director of Mobile Communications for Axalto. “INSIDE is an ideal partner for this solution because of its leading contactless technology and its shared vision of providing superior services.” This solution from Axalto and INSIDE Contactless works with any handset equipped with an antenna. It relies on single wire communication between the (U)SIM and PicoRead. This leaves remaining SIM contacts free for subscribers to enjoy a full range of high-speed services. “We are pleased to be working with Axalto, the leader in smart card technology, on a solution that will enhance subscribers’ experience with their mobile phones,” said Bruno Charrat, Chief Technology Officer at INSIDE Contactless. “When using these services, users can be assured they interact with the millions of readers worldwide, to exchange data or to perform secure transactions based in any existing standards as well as FeliCa™”. Axalto’s (U)SIM range included 2G and 3G SIM cards optimized for specific market requirements and use the Java SIM card to its fullest capabilities. The range is designed for interoperability, giving operators a competitive platform for deploying enhanced mobile services. The PicoRead contactless reader IC introduces eNCF, enhanced NFC, a technology that offers the possibility to communicate either like a contactless reader or transponder. eNFC includes the capabilities of the recently announced NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, with the advantage that it is compatible with the existing installed RFID reader base including ISO 14443 A/B (Proximity) and ISO 15693 (Vicinity) and FeliCa™. |
