1 million student ID cards delivered in Poland
Student
ID card (or ELS for electronic student) is one of two vital student
documents in Poland.Using smart card tehnology, this ID card
replaces all previous paper documents. As a national standard, it is
used by all the students of the 65 universities throughout Poland.
Since 2007, the student ID cards .confirm status and identity of the
bearer and secure access to universities facilities (e.g. dorms,
libraries, sport facilities). They are also widely used by students
as public transport cards in number of Polish cities (.Warsaw,
Poznan, Gdansk, Krakow).
This
project is driven on a national scale (uniform layout used by all state
universities in Poland) but with specificities for each city and
university. In Warsaw University, for instance, students can also link their
student ID card to their bank account and pay their parking in Warsaw centre
among other local applications.
Based on a
Gemalto solution and provided through our Polish partner Opteam,
universities plan to expand their usability by offering additional
functionalities like secure data storage, PKI e-signatures, library
management, e-purse, internet access and copy/printout management.
