Your digital identity is still basically a number, an identifier, but the idea is to secure its use with a credential based on biometrics and smart card technology.
To solve the problem of verification of ownership, this credential should include some kind of biometric. This tightly binds its use to the owner’s physical body, which is the root of identity, and prevents others from using the credential.
To solve the problem of counterfeit credentials, a card with an embedded
computer chip must be used. This enables use of digital security technology to
prevent counterfeiting. The card has to be present to use the identity, and the
computer in the card provides digital proof of the identity.
