On January 15 2015, Royal Oman Police (ROP) launched the new Omani electronic passport under the patronage of Sayyid Hamood bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior.
ePassport design is derived from Omani heritage of the dagger and Islamic and Arabic decorations as well as three dimensional drawings of the most prominent landmarks of Oman.
The new document incorporates a microchip containing the holder's information including biometric identity, a digital image and electronic signature.
The new ICAO compliant passport has been recognized right from the start at the High Security Printing Conference in Manila on January 21 as The Regional ID Document of The Year promoting the best in security printing, system infrastructure and implementation of a government passport.
The passports contain several advanced security features among which are holographic and non-holographic animated features, including micro-diffractive elements inserted in the holographic design.
The design and implementation of the holographic and other security features was provided by Hologram Industries. The award was made to Hugues Souparis, Managing Director of Hologram Industries.
Gemalto is proudly providing the Royal Omna Police with an end-to-end electronic passport solution for the Sultanate. The turnkey solution encompasses Gemalto's ICAO* compliant ePassport documents, and a full software solution suite to enroll citizens, personalize and issue secure documents.
