eKool (the Estonian name for its e-School service) was launched in 2002. It is the most used e-service of all time in the country. In 2010, it covered 70% of schools and 95% of Estonian students. The application is used on an ongoing regular basis by 28 to 30% of the population. Access to eKool is voluntary and secure. (source https://www.ekool.eu 2010)
Teachers can enter grades, assessments and attendance information, as well as set homework, sent out public or private messages to classes, parents or specific students.
eKool also offers a wide variety of time-saving tools, to help with everything from admission to the management of curriculums and work plans.
eKool helps parents to stay involved in their children's education and to understand educational objectives. They can stay informed and up-to-date with access to the system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can communicate with teachers, have access to homework, reports and grades and obtain answers to their questions very quickly.
For students, eKool is a place where all their educational information is collected together. This makes it easy to stay informed on how you are progressing, your attendance and your homework, with the information available being easy to store and easy to prepare.
Students can also save and organize their personal achievements in e-portfolios.
Finally, for regional and ministerial authorities, it is a powerful tool providing information which is always up-to-date, in particular with its (anonymous) statistical reports available on submission of a data query.
