UICC and LTE Together: Benefits and Possibilities

For the consumers that never want to miss their favorite show, operators have deployed mobile TV. It is already very popular in Asia. With LTE’s increased bandwidth and speeds, 4G will be an ideal environment for deployment.

To deploy mobile TV, operators support Conditional Access Systems (CAS) like those used in cable or satellite FTV set top boxes today, many of which are based on chip card technology. A CAS basically just means that only those that the subscriber can access mobile TV programs. The UICC can securely store and administer the keys and user rights of the CAS. This also makes it easier for operators to set up different parameters for viewing – like pay-per-view or ability to watch for only a certain amount of time.
