Country Specifics

UK | The adepts

Britons surf frequently the Internet for both banking and commercial reasons:
> the majority check their bank account and purchase online at least once a month even if their purchases are on average lower than Americans and Brazilians ones;
> Almost all of them use a credit card to purchase online even if the online wallet is already commonly used, more than in France and Brazil for instance.

Most of Britons are provided with different kind of tools for banking and commercial transactions but use mainly authentication based on Q&A (60%) and Virtual number pads (35%).

If new solutions would be suggested to them, they would prefer small formats to keep in their wallet or in their pockets such as USB keys, key rings…

USA | The spenders

Most of Americans (80%) check their bank account online at least once a month (score which is in line with other countries).
However, they surf the Internet somewhat less for purchasing online than the other countries:
> only 17% of them purchase online at least once a week, significantly less compared with British (26%) and German (30%) inhabitants;
> …nevertheless, they spend more money on average per month (48% spend between 101€ and 500€) significantly more than the other countries.

To purchase online, they use credit cards (94%) but they are also familiar with the online wallet (60%) and authentications based on Q&A for checking their bank account.

They are not indifferent owning new secured tools. Indeed about 50% is interested in new authentication formats to keep in the pockets, as Britons do.

France | The Cautious

French inhabitants use the internet more often for checking their bank account than for purchasing online:
> 1/3 checks their bank account daily (slightly more often than the other countries);
> Only 19% purchase online at least once a week and the majority spend less than 100€ on average per month online.

They use mainly credit cards for purchasing online (less often the online wallet but more checks, a means of payment which is less popular in the other countries).

A consequent number still dread using the Internet:
> 30% of them are not provided with any secured tools by their banks…
> …and almost 15% think their current secured authentication is not safe enough (the majority use mainly Virtual number pads).

Only 18% find the credit card very safe to purchase online (when almost 1/3 find both the online wallet and the check very safe).French inhabitants show a positive interest in new secure solution (with similar preference for USB and mobile phone formats).

Brazil | The enthusiastic

Brazilians surf the Internet for banking or commercial reasons less often than other countries:
> about 60% of Brazilians check his/her bank account at least once a week less frequently than French (69%) and German (72%) inhabitants ;
> Almost 45% purchase occasionally or never online.

But when they purchase online they tend to spend slightly more than British, French and Germans (they use mainly credit cards and not many other means of payment).

Overall, they feel less safe than the other respondents using the Internet and show a real interest in new secured authentication tools:
> 25% found their secured authentications not safe enough (when almost all are provided with Virtual Pads (86%) and authentications based on Q&A (49%) by their bank;
> Many criticize the safety of online means of payment (especially the online wallet and the check).

They show also a higher level of interest than other countries on secured solution formats such as USB keys, solutions on mobile phones… and are ready to spend money to benefit from the solutions

Germany | The rational

As the Britons, they frequently surf the Internet for both banking and commercial reasons:
> 80% of the German internet population check his bank account and purchase online very often.

When purchasing online:
> they spend slightly more than British and French;
> they use less the credit card than other countries (24% of them find it not safe) and more and more the online wallet.

An important thing to notice is that 1/3 of them is not provided with any secured authentication tools by their bank.

As Brazilians, they are ready to spend money to benefit from higher security tools in small formats such as USB keys.
