A majority of those who rarely or never carry out online transactions cite
security fears as the reason. Some even mistrust the internet in general due to
the risk of exposure of their personal information and fraudulent use of their
means of payment. Although the majority of the interviewees are provided with
security tools by their banks, almost 75 per cent expressed an interest in
additional or stronger authentication solutions. This figure underscores the
fact that most users very much appreciate the convenience of online banking but
would like more peace of mind regarding possible security risks.
A certain percentage would even pay for more secure solutions.
Do you use security tools for banking
& transactions?

The vast majority of consumers reveal that they are provided with tools such as
Q&A or Virtual Number Pads in order to secure the authentication of their
banking and commercial transactions (with some disparities between the
countries).
Why do you not check your bank account on line?
Those who do not feel safe never check their bank account for the following
reasons:

The amount spent per month for online purchases remains reasonable - below 100€
on average - but with some differences between countries (Americans and
Brazilians are used to spend more than other respondents for instance).
As means of payments are concerned, credit card became unavoidable being used by
almost everybody. Online wallet solutions (Paypal, Google Checkout…) are the
only real alternatives to pay online.

In the same way, only 28% of internet users find it very safe to pay online
giving the number of their credit card, showing a desire for increased security
for the remaining 72% (with strong differences existing between countries).
