Wireless technologies: Gemalto SIMagine Contest awards the most innovative projects
Gemalto, Samsung Electronics, Sun Microsystems, and mobile operators Maxis, MTN, Telefonica and TIM have selected start-ups and universities winners of the ninth edition of the SIMagine Contest
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Feb 13, 2008 - Yesterday evening, on February 12, a jury of leaders of the global mobile industry has awarded the eight teams that developed the most innovative wireless applications and services based on the JavaTM technology. Out of some 200 projects presented during the 2008 SIMagine worldwide contest, these teams received prizes worth up to 60 000 euros, which should help them conduct their projects.NFC Coupon - SIODATA Technologies (China)
This wireless marketing and CRM solution uses NFC and Java CardTM technologies. It aims at leveraging couponing and creating more accurate advertising data analysis.
Precise BioMatch™ - Precise Biometrics (Sweden)
A secure solution for matching a person’s fingerprint with one stored inside the protected environment of a cell phone SIM card for a reliable and user friendly authorization. Both security and privacy are protected as the matching is performed entirely inside the SIM card.
Taggy Tones - Free Access (Italy)
A totally new way of buying, distributing, giving as gifts or exchanging ringtones or other digital content using a colorful card containing an RFID tag.
Medi-SIM - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA)
Medi-SIM offers SIM-based tools that aim at improving public health, especially in developing countries and other areas where people lack access to health information systems.
SIMUnity - ST Petersburg University of Cinema and Television (Russia)
This project aims at providing the infrastructure to uniformly extend existing web-based social networks like MySpace and Facebook to the mobile environment and use different personalization services.

Mobi Campus - Rhodes University (South Africa)
Mobi Campus is an integrated communication and access infrastructure for campus environments, which leverages mobile technologies with convergence on mobile devices.
SmartDoor Bell - Upper Austria University of Applied Science (Austria)
This access solution, which replaces a standard intercom system with an NFC reader, works with an ordinary mobile phone for use in family homes as well as large office complexes with multiple entrances.
