Gemalto Achieves Major Step in Advancing the Take-Off of Mobile TV

Gemalto Mobile TV SIM card first to receive Smart Card Profile security certification

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Feb 16, 2009 - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced that its UpTeq™ mobile TV SIM card is the first to earn the security certification that meets the SIMalliance Security Guidelines. These guidelines apply to Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Mobile Broadcast Services Enabler Suite (BCAST) Smart Card Profile (SCP) mobile television products. This certification indicates to mobile operators that Gemalto’s UpTeq Mobile TV SIM card provides the required high level of security for mobile digital television. It also marks a major step in advancing the take-off of mobile television.

OMA BCAST is a globally recognized standard for mobile TV designed to ease the integration of an end-to-end mobile television system. It specifies a “Smart Card Profile” (SCP), which is the standard SIM-based Conditional Access System (CAS). The SIMalliance has defined Security Guidelines based on security analysis, common security methodology and third party laboratory evaluation, and the Gemalto UpTeq SIM card is the first one to meet those requirements. The evaluation was conducted by the LETI security center in Grenoble (France), a member of the Information Technologies Security Evaluation Facilities (ITSEF).
