SC Magazine Names Gemalto 'Innovator' for 2009

World’s first PIN-protected USB memory stick secured by smart card technology

Austin, TX, Dec 14, 2009 - Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, has been given the distinction of “Innovator 2009” by leading IT security publication SC Magazine. Gemalto was recognized in the Multi-Factor Authentication category for its portfolio of authentication products including the recently launched Protiva™ Smart Guardian (SG) – a smart card-based USB flash storage protected by military-grade encryption, and a PIN or passphrase for access.

The Smart Guardian, Gemalto newest innovation within the Protiva product portfolio, is the first PIN-protected USB device that combines proven smart card technology from Gemalto with secure flash data storage. The device is plug-and-play on both Windows^® and Mac OS^® and comes with the built-in option to enable always-on McAfee anti-malware and anti-virus software. Attempts to tamper with the device are detectable and intrusion attempts will cause the token to zero-out its contents.
