Filderstadt, July 26th 2001 – Gemplus, the world’s leading provider of smart-card-based solutions, has restructured its German subsidiaries and carried out a change in management. The previous managing director, Juergen Kempe, who was responsible for the two German Gemplus companies, Gemplus GmbH (Filderstadt) and Gemplus mids GmbH (Herne), left the company on June 30th 2001. He is succeeded by Andreas Koebe for Gemplus GmbH in Filderstadt and Johannis Debissis for Gemplus mids GmbH in Herne.
Through the appointment of the two new managing directors, Andreas Koebe and Johannis Debissis, Gemplus will focus even more intensively than before on the two divisions of Telecommunications in Filderstadt as well as Financial and Security Services in Herne and thus counter the current turbulence in the telecommunications industry.
“The resulting declines in sales for the suppliers of network operators have not spared Gemplus in Germany. As, incidentally, for other providers of smart cards, these developments now lead to a restructuring of our enterprise,” says Antonio M. Perez, CEO of the French parent company, Gemplus in Gémenos. “We are intensifying our focus on the two divisions of Telecommunications and Financial and Security Services, which are covered by the two branches in Germany. In this way we can remain competitive in the growing market of telecommunications.”
Andreas Koebe assumes management of Gemplus GmbH in Filderstadt. Previously he was the department manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland for four years and was responsible for Emerging Markets and last of all E-Business Security at Gemplus in Filderstadt. At Gemplus mids GmbH in Herne Johannis Debissis now assumes responsibility as the new managing director. He was previously Financial Controller for the region of central and eastern Europe for two years and a member of the management of the two German Gemplus locations in Filderstadt and Herne.
Juergen Kempe is leaving Gemplus in order to reorient himself: “For me it is time to tackle other tasks. Bearing responsibility for the world’s leading provider of smart-card-based solutions was a fantastic and exciting challenge. The company chose the right strategy by now focusing more strongly on the field of financial and security services so as to reduce its dependence on the telecommunications market.”
