SLP InfoWare Advocates Individual Control of Personal Information to Protect Privacy and Improve Personalization Predictive CRM Software Company Joins Personalization Consortium to Support Best Practices in Privacy and Personalization

30 January 2001 – SLP InfoWare, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Gemplus (GEMP) and a global leader in predictive customer relationship management solutions, advocates individual control over the private information used to personalize services and product offers over the Internet and wireless web. The announcement made today spells out SLP InfoWare's position on privacy as the newest member of the Personalization Consortium.

SLP InfoWare brings its expertise in personalization for telecommunications and wireless carriers to the round table of the consortium to encourage the establishment of worldwide privacy standards for companies utilizing personalization technology. As a member of the Personalization Consortium, an advocacy group formed to promote the responsible and beneficial use of technology for personalizing consumer and business relationships, SLP InfoWare will be at the forefront of efforts to promote permission-based marketing as a tool to assure personal privacy.

To support its position on individual privacy, SLP InfoWare is proceeding with efforts to give people more control over their private information as a means to increase the quality of the personalized services and marketing offers they receive through call centers, Web sites and now mobile devices. For wireless subscribers and Internet users SLP InfoWare provides opt-in opt-out features and is in the process of integrating its P-CRM solutions with Gemplus' secure smart card technology. These advancements will not only secure the personal information in an individual's profile, but will also allow them to decide who has access to it.

"Consumers are more open to marketing offers if they meet specific personal needs and interests, but they also want to be sure that the information used to personalize those offers is secure," said Jean Schmitt, CEO of SLP InfoWare. "We are all concerned about who has access to our personal information, so being able to control the information used to make personalized offers is a great service," Schmitt said.

SLP InfoWare's privacy position is founded on more than 10 years of expertise in developing and deploying P-CRM solutions that employ personal data to personalize customer service and marketing offers at multiple customer touch points -- call centers, Web sites, WAP-enabled phones and other mobile devices. SLP InfoWare's core technology analyzes customer data to generate models that predict the marketing offers a subscriber or online consumer is most likely to accept.

"From a business perspective, marketers using SLP InfoWare's software know which products or services a given individual is most likely to accept. This increases their ROI by focusing marketing expenditures only on those customers who are interested in receiving unique offers personalized to their needs and interests," said Schmitt.
