Gemplus® Partners with Computer Associates™, SM to Deliver Portable Digital Certificate Capabilities for eBusiness Security
Combination of CA eTrust PKI System and Gemplus Smart Cards Adds Simplicity and Flexibility to Certificate Deployment
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- RSA Security™, SM 2001 -- April, 10 2001 – Gemplus S.A. (NASDAQ:GEMP), the world’s leading provider of smart card solutions, today announced a development partner agreement with Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) to provide a powerful, portable solution for deploying PKI-based digital certificates. This relationship will enable customers to rapidly deploy and effectively manage trusted E-Business identities across the enterprise – including mobile users, such as field sales staff and on-the-go executives.
The new E-Business security solution is based on the integration of CA’s state-of-the-art eTrust™ PKI system, which manages and administers digital certificates across the enterprise, with Gemplus’ popular GemSAFETM, SM smart card technology, which provides a highly effective and portable solution for implementing digital certificates at the user level. Through integration, customers will gain unparalleled capabilities for seamlessly deploying and managing digital certificates across both their mobile and non-mobile user populations. The combined solution also integrates seamlessly with customers’ enterprise and E-Business applications.
“PKI-based digital certificate technology is fast becoming a requirement for the implementation of strong enterprise security. And smart cards provide a secure, portable means for implementing those certificates,” said Barry Keyes, CA vice president, Trust solutions. “By integrating GemSAFE smart card technology as a plug-in for CA’s eTrust PKI, we are providing our mutual customers with a readily deployable, highly manageable PKI solution.”
Through this integration, GemSAFE smart card technology can be also be used with eTrust’s leading solutions for secure user enterprise access, such as eTrust SSO and eTrust VPN. The combination of GemSAFE and eTrust provides stronger authentication for users and a secure bridge to existing IT systems and applications.
“As the volume of business conducted digitally grows, effective deployment of PKI technology will become an even more critical issue for companies in every market segment,” said Frederic Spagnou, Executive Vice President, E-Business Security and Global Services at Gemplus. “The alliance between CA and Gemplus gives our customers a scalable, flexible solution for PKI deployment that will ensure maximum benefit and minimized cost-of-ownership over time.”
Spagnou added that ease of administration is important to control the cost of certificate implementation, and also to ensure E-Business security over time. “As people come and go and E-Business relationships change, corporate security staffs have to maintain rigorous control of new and obsolete identities,” he said. “The integrated solution that CA and Gemplus have created fulfills this essential requirement.”
