Enhanced functionality and flexibility of GemUtilities™ adds value to On-line retention, promotion, and content delivery programs
LAS VEGAS, NV - CardTech/SecurTech 2001 - May 16, 2001 - Gemplus (NASDAQ:GEMP), the world's leading provider of smart card solutions, today announced version 1.6 of GemUtilities, its successful solution for the eConsumer market. The new version of GemUtilities provides an even higher degree of convenience and privacy for online navigation. Powered by smart card technology, GemUtilities allows companies to increase customer loyalty, link brands online and offline, and target marketing to individual cardholders. It facilitates new revenue streams for online activity, while acting as a valuable membership and convenience tool for consumers.

Customization of the solution's smart card, software interface and smart card reader, delivers brand messages in the pocket, on the desktop, and in cyberspace. With GemUtilities, companies leverage their online and offline resources to drive traffic to their web site and enhance eCommerce and promotions results. GemUtilities answers the market needs primarily in three ways:
Providing an innovative, consumer-friendly means for supporting customer retention and promotion efforts, even across multiple brands, reinforcing the issuer's presence
