Launches First Plug & Play EMV Smart Card Issuance Package
Turnkey desktop solution simplifies EMV card
personalisation for card issuers with reduced-scale EMV programmes
CARTES 2002, PARIS - 5 November 2002 - Gemplus (Paris Euronext:
Euroclear 5768 and NASDAQ:GEMP), the world's leading provider of smart
card-enabled solutions, launches GemSense Plug & Play, a desktop EMV*
card issuance solution.
GemSense Plug & Play is a self-contained personalization package
for small volumes of native EMV cards. The package includes software,
hardware and installation, training and consulting services. It is simple
to install and can be easily customized to suit the specific personalization
requirements of any bank or card issuer. GemSense Plug & Play complies
with all EMV, Visa and MasterCard guidelines and standards.

The A to Z of card issuance
GemSense Plug & Play is the entry point of the GemSense product family,
already used in more than ten countries and processing as many as seven
million cards in 12 weeks at a single site. GemSense Plug & Play is
designed to meet the needs of:
- Smaller card issuers who may already personalize magstripe and/or
smart cards in-house
- Larger card issuers with specific projects, e.g. exceptional issuances,
pilot programs, smaller card volumes, gold or premium cards, tight deadlines,
etc.
Demonstration at Cartes 2002
Gemplus will present GemSense Plug & Play in Hall 3, Booth 3G 031.
GemSense Plug & Play will be installed in the booth for the duration
of the show. Gemplus will issue individually personalized EMV cards to
customers at the booth, demonstrating the full card issuance process from
data preparation through card personalization, testing and data modification.
*EMV - EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) is a mandate
to ensure that banks and financial institutions provide their customers
with a smart card-based credit/debit card by 2004/2005.
EMV Prime
GemSense Plug & Play is a component of EMV Prime, a suite of solutions
