JavaOne 2002 Conference, San Francisco, CA, 25th March 2002 -
Gemplus International S.A (Euronext: Sicovam 5768 and NASDAQ: GEMP), the
world's leading provider of smart card-enabled solutions, today launched
its 'GemXpresso RADIII' kit,
enabling Java developers to design and test value-added applications
for smart cards more easily and efficiently. Available today, 'GemXpresso
RADIII' is the first self-contained Java Card application development
kit that integrates multiple tools (loader, simulator, debugger, etc.)
in a unified environment.
By using such an integrated and professional kit, the wide community
of Java developers will find it easier to create unique applications for
smart cards as Java Card technology programming is object-oriented and
applet development is faster and more efficient. In addition, 'GemXpresso
RADIII' kit supports a large variety of Java Card platforms and can be
used to load and test any Java Card 2.1 applet on any platform compliant
with JavaCard2.1.1/OP2.0.1. The kit can also be used to develop, debug
and test an applet on any GemXpresso platform.
'GemXpresso RADIII' is the application development component of Gemplus'
successful GemXpresso multiple application smart card product family,
which has been endorsed by major payment associations including Visa U.S.A.
and MasterCard International and has seen significant uptake by top financial
institutions and retailers in North America. To date, Gemplus has shipped
more than ten million GemXpresso cards to these industries.
The
'GemXpresso RADIII' kit includes all necessary elements needed to ensure
a complete development process in a Java Card environment:
- Programming tool suite integrated in a unified development environment:
'GemXpresso RADIII'
- GemXpresso Cards
- Smart Card Reader
- A 3-day training Option
- Documentation
"The selection of the GemXpresso RAD III development kit has been
one of the reasons for the success in the developments made at the University
of Cantabria (SPAIN). Its friendly development environment and versatility
has allowed to the development team of the University to implement the
WG10 applet running in the same smart card with an EMV applet." said
Dr. Luis Muñoz, OTTIUC Director in the University of Cantabria
(SPAIN).
This innovative card currently allows its users both university and banking
applications, and has been launched by Santander Central Hispano bank,
with the support of SISTEMA 4B
"Gemplus sees the Java Developer community to play an integral role
in paving the success for smart card technology world-wide, as the applications
available for the smart card will help to define its use. Increased security
and encryption capabilities, combined with a familiar form factor, the
smart card makes the perfect tool to put unique Java technology-based
applications in the hands of many people around the world," said
Luc Astier, GemXpresso Product Line Manager, at Gemplus. "The launch
of 'GemXpresso RADIII' integrated application tool kit further supports
Gemplus' leadership and ongoing drive to make Java Card application development
as simple and accessible to the Java Developer community as possible."
