Africa, 19 November 2002: GSM Africa, 19 November 2002: Gemplus (Paris
Euronext : Euroclear 5768 et NASDAQ : GEMP), the world’s leading provider
of smart card solutions, announces the launch of GemXplore CASE 3.1 for
Java Card. This is the latest in a range of development kits designed
to help developers reduce time-to-market for their STK applets. It gives
developers the freedom to develop and prototype real wireless applications
from their own PC’s as it is not linked to a network.
GemXplore CASE 3.1 for Java Card is a comprehensive development environment
dedicated to the development of SIM Toolkit applets. It is ideal for developers
to either prototype a STK service or develop a service for a telecom operator,
such as Chat, mobile games, group messaging, email, etc.
This kit has already proven its capabilities in the field with Telefónica
Móviles España. "GemXplore CASE 3.1 for Java is the ideal tool for interoperable
Java CardTM administration and for developing SIM ToolKit applet. In over
8 months of close collaboration, this product has proven to be a complete
package for the successful evaluation of our Java Card and has become
a powerful testing environment for our mobile service design team, said
Jose María Díaz, SIM & Terminals Manager, Telefonica Moviles España.
GemXplore CASE 3.1 for Java Card integrates an advanced card administration
module to handle both the SIM card file system and Java-specific features
such as the card manager. It integrates a complete simulation environment
featuring a mobile simulator, an SMSC (Short Message Service Center) and
an OTA (Over The Air) server simulator from which to simulate the execution
of the applet in its natural working environment. In addition, the card
simulator enables the debugging of a STK applet directly through the source
code. Established Java developers will already feel at home with the software
through its plug-in to the most popular Java Integrated Development Environment
(IDE), the Borland JBuilder.
“GemXplore CASE 3.1 for Java Card brings wireless Java cards to life by
opening them up to thousands of application developers worldwide. Its
inherent interoperability means that developers can create new applets
and services free from the constraints of one particular operator or card
supplier. Telefonica Moviles España’s MovilForum is one of the best examples
of this at work”, said Philippe Vallée, President, Telecom Business Unit,
Gemplus. “By working with GemXplore CASE 3.1 for Java Card, all the actors
involved gain greater freedom of choice for creating and installing value
added services on smart cards, essential in the migration from voice to
data.”
