Gemplus Launches the S@T developer Kit, a Virtual GSM Environment for
Dynamic SMS Based Services Development
S@T Developer Kit provides
a completely simulated GSM environment for developers to build applications
on. It is part of the GemXplore Online offer

3GSM World Congress, Cannes, 19 February 2002 - Gemplus, leader
in smart cards solutions, today launches the S@T Developer Kit, a software
development suite dedicated to operators and wireless applications developers
who need to prototype, develop, test and implement SMS-based applications
such as Wireless Corporate Applications, m-Commerce services and advertising.
Offering Value Added Services is proving to be the best way of retaining
customers and generating new revenue streams. Operators are closely watching
their bottom line and focused on realizing ROI and generating revenue.
They need to look at creating the right services and ensuring they are
delivered seamlessly to their subscribers. Relevant and innovative applications
will be key in delivering revenue and reducing churn as the mobile market
matures and moves toward 3G.
In response to this Gemplus has created the S@T Developer Kit, which
provides a complete simulated GSM environment, including GSM network,
SMS center and mobile phone simulator within the high end S@T infrastructure.
This kit represents the first easy step to roll out OTA based services.
It is part of Gemplus range of OTA products, GemXplore Suite and GemXplore
Online.
The S@T Developer Kit enables any developers to create S@T mobile services
based on mark up language without any experience in smart card technology
or GSM network. The environment is very easy to install on a standalone
PC. The main functionality is to generate S@TML pages and testing them
on a simulated network and handset using a real S@T enabled SIM card.
Application Development
Gemplus offers broad options for application development. Working primarily
with open, Java-based operating systems, applications can be supplied
by more people than ever before, either by ourselves, operators or partners.
We provide developers with tools to create Java Card applications for
GSM, 3G, CDMA which can be loaded onto our GemXplore 'Xpresso cards. We
also allow supply software to content providers to help them develop mobile
user-interfaces for accessing mobile Internet-like content via the S@T
micro-browser found on our smart cards.
This offer forms part of Gemplus' ARPU Factory, the industry's most comprehensive
platform of solutions, a series of interworking solutions designed to
reduce operator costs, reduce churn and enhance the relationship with
the end-user. It is through these solutions that operators will be able
to increase their ARPU while offering a secure and improved service to
their subscribers.
The S@T Developer Kit package includes the ready-to-use components to
test each solution:
- S@T enabled SIM cards with a sample service inside
- A plug and play smart card reader
- A single CD-ROM containing software toolkit, documentation and samples
services
