Corporate security enhanced by Gemplus smart card solution
Gemplus’ SafesITe system helps enterprises create a more trusted and efficient work environment for their employees
Luxembourg/CARTES 2003, Paris – November 17th, 2003 – Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 – GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world’s leading provider of smart card solutions today introduces “SafesITe”, its smart card-based offering for corporate & B2B security. SafesITe is based on Gemplus’ proven portfolio of smart card technology and expertise, and enables enterprises to offer more secure and convenient identification services to their employees. The SafesITe system provides customers and system integrators with all the products (cards, readers & software) and services necessary for quick and easy deployment of multi-purpose employee cards capable of consolidating physical and IT security features.
Responding to IT security concerns
In 2002 it was reported (CSI and FBI) that 90% of large corporations and government agencies detected computer security breaches within the last year. The traditional employee badges used within most corporations today are unable to engage these electronic security issues. The SafesITe system responds to this challenge by offering a versatile platform through which building access, network security and additional employee services, can be combined in just one portable smart card.
“Only in the last few years there has been an unprecedented uptake in the use of smart cards amongst enterprises in order to enhance protection of their internal IT assets,” said Anoop Ubhey, Senior Smart Card Industry Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “A prime example of this was when the Boeing Corporation, one of the largest companies in the world, decided to implement smart card-based security from Gemplus for their 200,000 employees. Gemplus' SafesITe solution includes the components needed for Boeing Corporation's transition towards a multi-application employee card that can engage both physical and logical security threats.”
Increase productivity while preserving investments
SafesITe’s capacity to consolidate several functions inside just one card makes it a versatile platform for increasing efficiencies while enhancing security. User-friendly control of application passwords and network logons results in less helpdesk calls, and thus a more productive working environment. IT security functionalities can easily be integrated with existing physical badge systems, hence preserving security investments.
“The SafesITe system offers an affordable price point to smart card-enable your security infrastructure by providing companies with the option to combine building and network access on an existing employee badge,” said Olivier Chavrier, Marketing Director of Gemplus ID & Security solutions. “With just one personal smart card employees can carry out everyday tasks such as building entry, network access, passwords, vending purchases etc., helping enterprises to cut administration costs, and also create a more user-friendly work environment.”
SafesITe will be demonstrated at the Cartes 2003 conference in Paris, November 18-20 in Gemplus booth #3G033, Hall 3.
