Gemplus smart cards provide secure web access at Internationale Medienwoche

At Internationale Medienwoche Berlin-Brandenburg, participants access secure web content with GemAuthenticate1) from Gemplus

Luxemburg, Berlin, 29 August 2003 - Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the worlds leading provider of smart card based solutions, has been selected by Filmboard Berlin Brandenburg GmbH to support an innovative Business-to-Business Communication Tool for participants of the international Medienwoche Berlin Brandenburg. Gemplus provides an advanced web authentication solution using smart cards, readers and innovative software.

Easy Internet access
Using a smart card, on which the access code of every single conference participant is stored, and a Gem PC 433 smart card reader, an online connection to a back end system is automatically launched and conference participants can access customized content via the conference web terminals.

GemAuthenticate components presented at Medienwoche features, in particular, easy handling of the web access. Using all components GemAuthenticate solution offers superlative security and content protection features based on smart card technology. GemAuthenticate can be adapted to guarantee any required level of security, from simple memory cards for access control, to advanced, highly secure crypto smart cards in PKI (public key infrastructure).

 1) GemAuthenticate is a Gemplus product suite that specializes in providing failsafe security to web based resource infrastructures. The core feature of this suite is user-authentication, i.e. securely verifying the identity of a person who is attempting to gain access to a web-based resource, and that all communication actually comes from that person.
