Gemplus
Responds to Market Demand with Aggressive Roadmap for High-End Java Card™
Technology
- Continued evolution of the GemXplore 'Xpresso range
to 128K for 2G and 3G
- Providing subscribers with hassle-free access to
data-rich services
- Reinforcing Gemplus' technological leadership
Cannes 18 February 2003, Gemplus (Paris Euronext: Euroclear 5768
and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world's leading provider of smart card solutions,
declares its strategy for high-end Java Card™ technology with a roadmap
for its 128K GemXplore 'Xpresso Java™ SIM Card.
To be introduced in June, GemXplore 'Xpresso 128K will provide operators
with the necessary components to support their migration to 3G. With SMS-based
data revenues today equalling on average more than 9% of ARPU, operators
acknowledge the need to efficiently develop, manage and deploy data services.
This becomes increasingly important as they migrate to 2.5 - 3G. To that
end, the 128K Java SIM card will:
- Ease migration to end-user segment driven services
- Open up new revenue models to operators with secured memory rental
to content partners
- Ease and leverage secure data service deployment (e.g. MMS)
- Offer remote management for available memory space through the GPRS
channel and Dynamic Memory Management as standard
- Facilitate migration and renewal campaigns with MySIMcopier*
GemXplore 'Xpresso 128K will leverage off existing SIM attributes such
as SIM-browsing, high security with the Common Criteria EAL5+ certification
and Dynamic SIM ToolKit with demonstrable interoperability.
Frédéric Vasnier, head of the Cards & Tools Business Line, Gemplus,
said: "This roadmap will ensure that the GemXplore 'Xpresso range
retains the leading position for Java products with the most secure, flexible,
and cost-effective solution to ease operator's deployment on new services."
*MySIMcopier - Stand-alone tool enabling the end-user to copy phonebook
and SMS data from one SIM to another in complete security
