First-to-Market IM Service Using SIM Browsing To Be
Showcased At 3GSM Congress.
CANNES and SAN FRANCISCO, February 13, 2003,
- Gemplus, the world's leading provider of smart card-enabled solutions
and MessageVine, the leading provider of Messaging and Presence solutions,
announced today an agreement to develop and market SIM-based Instant Messaging
for mobile operators. The solution will be showcased at the 3GSM Congress
in Cannes, France.
MessageVine will deliver a function-rich messaging and presence application
leveraging Gemplus' S@T enabled cards and browsing
platform. This new development extends MessageVine IM and Presence Server,
the company's flagship product, which is commercially deployed by a number
of service providers around the world.
The SIM provides an efficient and ubiquitous browsing platform accelerating
rapid mass-market penetration of mobile Internet services utilizing existing
mobile infrastructure and open industry standards. The partnered solution
is based on S@T, an open SIM browsing standard.
"The majority of the target audience for Mobile IM does not own
a high-end mobile device", said Amit Rahav, Vice President of Marketing
& International Operations at MessageVine. "Offering IM over
S@T SIM browsing brings the service to all devices in a user friendly,
dynamic format."
The partnership will enable Gemplus and MessageVine to offer a full-featured
instant messaging service on every mobile device. This collaboration will
bring a highly popular, retentive product to operators and network providers.
"Usability and efficient access are key to mass penetration of messaging
and data services," said Jerome Nadel, Vice President at Gemplus.
"With applications such as MessageVine's Mobile IM running on Gemplus'
S@T -based browsing platform, operators can meet this challenge and see
quick return on their investment".
The solution will be presented for the first time at 3GSM in Cannes at
the Gemplus booth (Stand 19 Hall 1) and in the Gemplus Demo Center located
at 4 La Croisette, right across from the Exhibition hall.
