Gemplus innovations take home two awards at Cartes 2004

BioEasy and APDU-TLS1 win Best Software and Best Mobile Application in the Sesame Awards

Luxembourg and Cartes 2004, Paris, 4 November 2004, Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the worlds leading provider of smart card based solutions, announced that its two nominated solutions, BioEasy and APDU-TLS, won their respective categories of Best Software and Best Mobile Application in the Sesames Awards, Cartes 2004.

BioEasy is a Gemplus patent that offers a simple and secure way to deploy biometric technology using the card for high-speed authentication rather than the PC or card reader. This takes no longer than 80 milliseconds and does not compromise security or memory space. The smart card is the ideal support to manage portable biometrics information.

APDU-TLS fulfils the security needs for communication between a smart card and a terminal where the data is subject to attacks from the PC world. Based on the TLS protocol, APDU-TLS sets up a secure end-to-end communication between a smart card and a terminal in the Internet environment.

"Security is fundamental to our industry, helping to identify individuals, protect privacy, prevent fraud and protect assets", said Jacques Seneca, Executive Vice President, Research and Development, Gemplus, "these two solutions are proof of Gemplus' commitment to our clients in continually bringing the most innovative and secure products to the fore".
