Gemplus's content messaging services boosts Immix Wireless monthly ARPU by 6%

Immix Wireless provides horoscopes, news, weather, sports trivia, quotes, numerology, icons, and ring tones using Gemplus's SIM-based content messaging services

Luxembourg, Las Vegas, NV, RCA Annual Conference and Exhibition, April 14, 2004 - Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world's leading provider of smart card solutions, today announces positive results following the deployment of its SIM card-based content messaging services to Immix Wireless subscribers. Only six months after launch, Gemplus's services contributed six percent to the carrier's monthly Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Immix Wireless launched its GSM network in Pennsylvania, U.S. in June of 2003. One service offered to its subscribers is the ability to browse and download wireless content using the SIM card in their wireless handsets. Subscribers are able to receive news, stocks, weather, horoscopes, ring tones, and icons using interactive menus stored on the SIM card. The interactive menus allow the subscribers to view, search, and download content faster and more conveniently than with other methods, such as short codes. In fact, Immix subscribers downloaded three times more ring tones and icons with SIM interactive menus than through the carrier's web interface and Short Message Service (SMS).

The Yankee Group reported in December of 2003 that eight percent of wireless users pay at least $0.50 per month for information services. At Immix, 28 percent of its subscribers paid an average of $2.50 per month for information services and contributed more to monthly ARPU during the fourth quarter of 2003 than subscribers from three leading nationwide carriers.

"Immix is excited about the great success we've had with our premium messaging services only six months after launch," said Kim Caronchi, Director of Marketing at Immix/PC Management. "Working with Gemplus, we have found a way to offer more content for less investment, without the need for expensive marketing campaigns. Gemplus's service offers us a cost effective way to provide premium services to subscribers while increasing our brand awareness."

Gemplus is continually adding new content to its catalogue of services and has recently signed a distribution agreement with Ogangi to provide entertainment content to wireless subscribers through the Gemplus Operation Center.

To enhance it's current offer, Immix Wireless will be providing it's subscribers access to Ogangi content, which includes jokes, quotes, biorythms, numerology, energy meters, trivia, and SMS games like bingo, hangman, and blackjack.

"Immix Wireless is a highly innovative carrier that understands the importance of strong customer service," said Jean-Louis Carrara, North American Vice President of Telecommunications Business Unit at Gemplus. "We believe such positive results are due to the strong relationship and creative collaboration with Immix, and serve as concrete proof of our SIM-based messaging service bureau."

Having operated over fifty platforms worldwide for SIM card provisioning and content messaging, Gemplus delivered the entire over-the-air (OTA) solution to Immix Wireless, from design and project management to activation and content browsing. Gemplus's Operation Center, located in Dallas, Texas, provides OTA provisioning of SIM cards and delivers premium content based on SMS to Immix subscribers.
