Gemplus certified CMM level 3 in France and Singapore

Luxemburg, 5 April 2006 – Gemplus International S.A. ( Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), a world leading provider of secure card-based solutions, today announces that its two main centres of Research and Development, in La Ciotat, France, and Singapore, have been certified CMM (Capability Maturity Model) Level 3, giving Gemplus a huge competitive advantage in the development and maintenance of its products and services.

CMM (Capability Maturity Model), developed at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI), is considered the industry standard for identifying best practices in increasing the maturity of an organization's software development processes.

“This success is the result of our strategy of continual improvement and operational actions undertaken since 2002, ” comments Philippe Vallée, Chief Technology Officer, Gemplus. “Our next objective is the new CMMI certification (Capability Maturity Model Integration), which is highly demanding and which will enable us to surpass our current performance in order to better satisfy our customers”.

In 2003, Gemplus was the first company in our industry to achieve level 2 certification in France, soon followed by the same in Singapore in 2004.
