Overview
The Gemalto Prox
technology includes a range of ISO 14443 contactless products particularly suited for the
Proximity Payments, Identity, Access Control and Mass Transit markets.
It
consists in a complete technological offer including:

Prox Chipsets are the fruit of ten years of experience in
the design of contact and contactless interfaces. In particular, the
Core Chipsets (ex GemCore) have been successfully implemented in more than 60
different EMV Level 1 certified devices.

Benefits
Easy to use
The Prox Chipset is made of two integrated circuits:
- The Radio Frequency (RF) module handles signal modulation, the
lowest layers of ISO 14443 standard and Mifare security.
- The digital module embeds the Gemalto Prox technology contactless firmware either
in Flash or ROM memory. This firmware takes in charge the upper layers and
the communication with the host processor.
With this two components solution, contactless
technology is now accessible to non-RF specialists.
The Prox choice guarantees the time to market and drastically reduces
the R&D risks.
Automatic operating modes such as the card
insertion / removal and the PayPass card recognition algorithm are also
implemented for the highest performances.

Compliant with market
standards
The Prox technology is fully compliant with the ISO 14443 A and B
standard. T=CL protocol is driven directly by the Prox firmware.
As a result, the application software is dramatically simplified by the
high level command set. An API C language source code and a PC/SC Windows
driver are provided in the Prox Development Kit.
The Prox-based readers also read and write Mifare® cards family
such as Mifare Ultra Light, Classic 1 K / 4 K, Smart MX ,Pro X and DESFire.
The Prox Chip Set drives directly one contactless card and up to
4 ISO 7816 Security Access Modules (SAM). Being compliant with the
latest MasterCard, Visa and American Express specifications, it is
particularly suited for POS terminals and PIN pads.

Technical
expertise
Gemalto commits on the success of the development projects
based on Prox Chipsets. Depending on the experience of its customers,
Gemalto proposes different levels of technical assistance:
- Training on the Prox products and development tools
- Technical support about the design of the reader and its antenna
- Test and certification of the complete device
- Support of non-ISO cards.
Gemalto is an active participant to international standardization
groups and offers its unique experience in consulting services such as:
Security schemes, interoperability issues, test specifications and tools,
feasibility analysis, demonstrations.
