Some 500 Omani citizens activated the ePurse function in their eID cards
in the very first days of the pilot in July. This is the first time an
on-card application has been activated post-deployment and Gemalto is
delighted to be able to offer such new eServices to citizens through
their current eID cards.
The application uses Gemalto’s turnkey Coesys ePurse solution, and includes an on-card ePurse, a post-issuance activation solution and a centralized transaction management system. The ePurse can be used to pay administrative fees for items such as certificates, registrations, licenses and visa applications as well as it can be for topping up cellphones and shopping in many stores.
