In March 2006, Gemalto announced it would be providing the digital security technology for future ePassports for Statni Tiskarna Cenin (STC), the Czech national printing agency.

Gemalto’s solution features in particular Sealys eTravel, the company’s highly secure operating system with advanced cryptographic capabilities running on a large capacity contactless chip. This operating system is EAL4+ security certified along the international security common criteria, and compliant with the latest International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and with the European Union regulatory framework.

The first ePassports have already been produced, and STC expects to ramp up production to 200,000 ePassports by end 2006. The STC currently produces between 500,000 and 600,000 passports each year.
