In August 2006, Gemalto received its first volume order
from the U.S. Government Printing Offices to supply ePassports for American
citizens.
The Department of State evaluated Gemalto's solution at its testing
facilities and confirmed it fully satisfies the agency's requirements for
privacy protection, manufacturing yield, security, durability and communications
performance.

The State Department is also able to increase the issuance rate of ePassports
due to the excellent performance of Gemalto’s Sealys eTravel
operating system.
Gemalto is one of only two vendors to be selected after a rigorous selection process for the supply of the US ePassport program.
