In August 2006, Gemalto received its first volume order from the U.S. Government Printing Offices to supply ePassports for American citizens.
 

The Department of State evaluated Gemalto's solution at its testing facilities and confirmed it fully satisfies the agency's requirements for privacy protection, manufacturing yield, security, durability and communications performance.
 

Gemalto’s Sealys ePassport solutions include 3 components:

• Sealys eTravel, the company’s ePassport operating system software running in a large capacity, secure, contactless microprocessor chip
   
• Sealys Inlay, the module embedding the microprocessor and the antenna
   
• Sealys eCover, the passport booklet back-cover integrating the microprocessor and the antenna.
   

The State Department is also able to increase the issuance rate of ePassports due to the excellent performance of Gemalto’s Sealys eTravel operating system.
 

Gemalto is one of only two vendors to be selected after a rigorous selection process for the supply of the US ePassport program.
