Carnot AG, Germany CARNOTLite: Workflow-Aware Mobile Client
The CARNOTLite project aims at providing a mobile interface to the CARNOT Process Engine offering workflow functionality entirely based on the J2EE standard. By interfacing with this engine, holders of hand-held devices or mobile phones can participate in a workflow defined for their business organization. They can remotely start business processes, view items on their work-lists as well as execute or delegate activities. Moreover they can even track processes by executed activities. To show the process awareness, we have chosen one concrete business in the logistics sector: a courier service involving participants who have to remain mobile and simultaneously need constant interaction with their organizational workflow system.

EM Lyon, France House Guard
The Applet House Guard is a controller application, embedded on the SIM card of a cellular phone which gives the user the ability to keep his/her home under control at any time from anywhere. Thanks to a home automation system with direct access to a GSM network, features such as heating, security, lighting, air conditioning, motorised shutters are remotely controllable. A reporting alarm feature informs the user in real-time of events that occur at his/her home. The applet and the home automation system share a common high level protocol for interoperability - proprietary or standard depending on the manufacturer. This controller applet provides the user a truly universal and efficient solution for remote control.

Etnoteam, Italy Magic Challenge
The Magic Challenge is a Massive Multiplayer On the air Role Playing Game (MMORPGers) - increasingly popular amongst large sectors of the 'wired' population. Through a SIM Toolkit-based application the MMORPGers (gamers) enter the game, choose their characters (wizard or warrior) and play with other users located in the current urban cell. The project aims to provide an interaction between the real and virtual worlds: users must physically run away from a cell, if she/he refuse to challenge with enemies, and relocate in thirty minutes.

India Institute of Technology Mobile Order Management System
The application enables the sales force of a company to access the company's order entry system using their mobile phones. It will enable sales people to take orders from customers on-site, query the company database, give a quotation and delivery date for the required items and after possible negotiations, finalize the order then and there. Such an application would greatly reduce the time and cost of acquiring confirmed orders.

National University of Singapore Advertisement platform
This platform functions on the idea that an advertisement that is pushed must be non-intrusive, while allowing the user to pull more information. The platform allows the sender to choose an advertisement, sent along with the message. The sender automatically constricts the length of his message and in return, receives an incentive such as a subsidized rate. The platform also allows the server to attach an advertisement as a separate SMS, and these two SMSs are assembled into a holistic message to the client, further enabling non-intrusive advertising and facilitates mixing character sets to utilize space in a multilingual message.
Simbit Corporation, Canada SimSave
Simsave allows operators to provide wireless phonebook backup and synchronization to their subscribers. Using Simsave a subscriber can:
  • Wirelessly backup and restore their SIM phonebook
  • Synchronize their SIM with other electronic phonebooks (Palm, MS Outlook, corporate database)
  • Manage their phonebook using an operator's Web portal
  • Transfer their phonebook when upgrading SIM cards

Simsave addresses the shortcomings of the SIM phonebook and provides operators the infrastructure needed to be synchronization service providers.

University Federico, Italy Reaching
Our project aims to develop an application program in Java which allows any user to get information on the availability of a GSM user. If user A calls B who is not traceable - being off line or terminal off - the user can activate a service to know when B connects to GSM network. The network operator sends back a SMS advice to notify when B connects to the network. This is a mass-oriented service with a very big target. It aims to be the fastest way to reach people you are looking for!
University of Balearic Islands GAMoBILE
GAMoBiLE aims to allow users to gamble using their mobile and SIM card. Games of chance accessible from the system could include different kinds of lotteries, football pools and others.
GAMoBiLE will allow people to gamble from their mobiles in a secure way by using an applet installed in the SIM card that communicates with the authority in charge of certifying the transactions between the user's bank and the gambling entity. This applet will also help the user to perform his bet as well as to verify that the game rules are respected. Once the bet has been processed, an electronic receipt will be stored in the applet, substituting the current piece of paper. GAMoBiLE could be easily extended to associated services like automatic notification of prize winners, access to different statistics about the games.

Vaka Technology Ltd, Hong Kong Intelligent Edge Messaging Service (IEMS)
IEMS transforms next generation mobile terminals into powerful remote controls at public venues, driving venue-based m-commerce and seamlessly merging virtual and physical interaction together. A typical IEMS deployment for a single venue consists of Bluetooth IEMS agents installed at strategic locations in the venue communicating with an IEMS Edge Server when IEMS-enabled mobile terminals are detected. The Server then processes and forwards the information to the IEMS clients implemented as Java-Card Applets in the mobile terminals. The project aims to enable 24-hour m-commerce-ready storefronts and interactive booths at physical venues such as shopping malls, hotels, subways, and airports, extending virtual experiences to real environments and real objects.
