Multimedia consumption is changing and people are now using an increasing
number of mobile devices to get online.
The market for laptops and tablets is witnessing great growth with Gartner predicting 700 million broadband devices sales in 2016.
Tablet users tend to connect through Wi-Fi and this creates a challenge for operators to promote adoption of 3G/4G data connectivity.
When people buy their devices outside of the MNO store network, they often
choose models with Wi-Fi connectivity only.
This makes it harder for mobile operators to promote their 3G/4G services and data plans. Even when users own a 3G/4G ready - device, they rarely go to the operator shop to activate data subscriptions. Our Subscription Management offer enables MNOs to:
The solution enables MNOs to roll-out generic UICCs as an option in stores
where tablets and mobile PCs are sold.
When the user first inserts this UICC, the device is able to connect to a 3G/4G network even if the user has not yet purchased a subscription.
Thanks to this, MNOs can then promote their offer or provide end-users with free access to 3G/4G for specific applications. In situations where there is no Wi-Fi coverage, users will be shown a web page that invites them to select the most appropriate data plan.
Gemalto's solution provides a temporary active subscription in an embedded UICC followed by a dynamic download of the data plan once chosen by the user.
Gemalto's On-Demand Connectivity solution also provides access to Macheen Pinpoint services, to control access to 3G/4G connectivity depending on usage, apps and services.
