At the Eurovision Song Contest Final in Stockholm, Sweden, in the spring of 2016, the extravagant outfits on stage were complemented with other wearables among the audience – contactless wristbands.
Available in the Eurovision Village in the week leading up to the contest, the wristbands were the result of collaboration between Gemalto and Visa Europe.
They remained usable at any Visa-ready contactless POS terminal in the world for half a year after the event, enabling visitors from all over the world to bring their wristbands home as an uncommonly useful souvenir.
Alongside the many international visitors, a TV audience of over 200 million people saw the Grand Finale at the Globe Arena.
